Mazes, Missteps, and Mandalorian Moments: An Epic Day at Anmyeondo Island

The thirst for adventure is unquenchable in the Fournier household. Thus, one sun-kissed morning, Team Fournier - comprised of yours truly, our very own Star Wars guru Jon, and the ever-enthusiastic Russell - loaded up our trusty steed (okay, it's just our car, Skittle) and headed to the enigmatic Anmyeondo Island.

The mission? Tackling the Underwind Tourist Farm’s renowned tree maze. You see, mazes are to the Fourniers what cake is to fat kids: irresistibly enticing. A real-life hedge maze was, of course, a golden tick on our Korean bucket list.

However, as every seasoned adventurer will tell you, it's not just about the destination but the journey too. Our pit stop at Dogo Change Cafe served us a hearty portion of giggles, thanks to Jon's adorable cheese sandwich blunder. In Jon's defense, that baguette did look cheesily deceiving. I indulged in a flaky blueberry danish, while Russell opted for a slice of bakery pizza. Laughter broke out as Jon unsuspectingly bit into his 'cheese sandwich', aka baguette with generous pats of butter. To say we roasted him over a buttery breakfast would be an understatement!

The trip wasn't without its GPS mishaps either. Just as we were enjoying the open road, listening to our current book (Hell Divers by Nicholas Sansbury Smith), Jon made an "intentional" wrong turn. This gave us a 40-minute scenic detour, which was basically nature's way of reminding us to cherish the journey (or, you know, to pay more attention to the GPS).

One of the most thrilling parts of our drive was passing through the underwater tunnel connecting mainland South Korea to Hyojado Island, then crossing a majestic bridge to Anmyeondo Island. There's something mesmerizing about being encased underwater, en route to a thrilling escapade.

Underwind Tourist Farm, a haven nestled amid breathtaking scenery and the serene Jipo Reservoir, beckoned us. As we entered Café Under the Tree, we refueled with some refreshing beverages and charted our maze strategy. With a pamphlet in hand, and Jon channelling his best Mandalorian impression, we set off, constantly reminding each other, "This is the way."

The challenge? Not just navigating the maze in order, but also collecting four elusive stamps, a quest reminiscent of a magical treasure hunt. The heat was a formidable adversary. It was like venturing through the deserts of Tatooine, minus the twin suns and Sand People. Nevertheless, we emerged victorious, our sunflower plant starter kit prize in hand—a testament to our family’s unwavering spirit.

Despite the sweltering heat, our spirits remained unbroken. The day was filled with memories, laughter, and a determination to return. The tree maze, after all, is an ever-changing labyrinth. And we Fourniers are always up for a challenge, especially if it promises adventure and a touch of magic.

And thus, as the sun began its descent, casting the world in a golden hue, we promised the winding paths of 바람아래관광농원 that we'd be back, better prepared and always ready to find our way.
