Macaroo: A Sweet Symphony of Flavors in Asan's Blue Crystal Village

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

If you've been on Instagram lately, you might have stumbled upon pictures of visually stunning and drool-worthy macarons from a place called Macaroo. These vibrant confections were so irresistible that they led us on a mini-adventure to Blue Crystal Village in Asan-si, South Korea. In case you're wondering, yes, our eyes were significantly bigger than our stomachs, and we ended up with an assortment of macarons that were too pretty to eat (at first) but too delicious not to finish eventually.

An Unexpected Gem in Blue Crystal Village

Located amidst the quaint charm of Blue Crystal Village, Macaroo is like a treasure chest of sweetness. Though the village is known for its unique attractions and artisanal shops, Macaroo stands out as a place that beckons not just with its sight but also with its scent—the delightful aroma of freshly baked macarons.

Ambiance and First Impressions

As soon as you enter the store, you're enveloped in an atmosphere of whimsy and delight. The design is minimalistic yet colorful, ensuring the macarons are the star of the show. Well-lit glass display counters showcase an extensive array of macaron flavors, each one more intriguing than the next.

A Flavor for Every Palate

Macaroo's repertoire of flavors is nothing short of extraordinary. Ranging from traditional picks like Vanilla and Green Tea to innovative tastes like Joripong (a popular Korean cereal flavor), Pig Bar (named after a popular Korean ice cream), and Brown Cheese—each macaron promises a unique tasting experience.

Joripong and Pig Bar: A Taste of Korea

While the Joripong macaron (yellow smiley face) offered a sweet and grainy goodness, the Pig Bar flavor was an ice cream-inspired treat that took us back to childhood summers in Korea. These local flavors make Macaroo's offering distinctively Korean, in addition to being globally appealing.

Classic Flavors: Strawberry, Butter Corn, and Vanilla

These may sound like your usual flavors, but Macaroo adds its special touch. The strawberry had a fresh, fruity tartness, while the butter corn had a salty-sweet allure that was unexpectedly delightful. Vanilla was comforting in its simplicity but elegant in its execution.

Exciting Combinations: Mint Chocolate Oreo & Marshmallow Cookies and Cream

For those who like a bit of complexity in their sweets, these flavors hit the spot. The Mint Chocolate Oreo had layers of flavors unfolding with every bite, and the Marshmallow Cookies and Cream was like a heavenly collision between a s'more and a classic cookies and cream dessert.

Gourmet Twists: Salted Caramel and Blueberry Yogur

These flavors were a gourmet twist on the classic macaron experience. The salted caramel had the perfect balance of sweet and salty, and the Blueberry Yogurt was tart, creamy, and refreshing.

Surprising Sensations: Milk, Brown Cheese, and Green Tea

The Milk flavor was like a sweet lullaby that took us back to simpler times, whereas the Brown Cheese (yellow duck) was rich and had a slightly tangy kick. The Green Tea flavor was a masterful blend of earthy and sweet notes.

More Than Just Macarons: Why Macaroo is a Must-Visit

What sets Macaroo apart is not just its comprehensive range of flavors but also the texture of their macarons. Each one has that perfect crisp shell and soft, chewy interior, making them as enjoyable to eat as they are to look at.

Overindulgence and Zero Regrets

Though we brought home an assortment that was a bit too ambitious for immediate consumption, every flavor was savored and enjoyed over a couple of days. Yes, they remain fresh and delectable even after some time—provided you can resist the temptation to finish them all at once!

Making Your Way to Macaroo

To sum it up, a visit to Macaroo is an adventure for the senses, offering a perfect blend of familiar and exotic. If you find yourself in or near Blue Crystal Village, missing out on Macaroo would be a sweet opportunity wasted.
