A Whiff of Tranquility: Boseong Green Tea Fields

The allure of South Korea extends beyond its bustling cities and historical wonders. Deep in the Jeolla region lies the picturesque Boseong Green Tea Fields, a destination that beckons with its serenity, culture, and natural beauty. It was here that our motley crew—Jon, Pan, Luna, mom, Jurate, Tadas, August, and I—found ourselves on a weekend bus tour, ready for an adventure unlike any other.

Green Terraces of Daehan Dawon

Our first stop was the famed Daehan Dawon tea estates, a sprawling expanse of terraced plantations that dates back to the Japanese colonial era of the 1930s. As everyone else decided to hike the winding trails, Jon and I opted for a quiet moment at the base of the terraces. It was here, with the verdant landscape as our backdrop, that we indulged in the estate's matcha green tea ice cream—a treat that captured the essence of Boseong's renowned tea.

The hike, as described by our companions, was an immersive experience. The large staircase led them through the terraced plantations, eventually culminating in an observation deck that offered panoramic views of the sea and neighboring tea gardens. It was easy to understand why this destination is a must-visit, with its harmonious blend of nature and culture.

Whispers of the Bamboo Forest

After reconvening, Pan, Luna, and I were drawn to the bamboo forest adjacent to the tea estate. Though not directly linked with the plantations, its dense canopy of towering bamboo stalks presented a stark contrast to the open terraces. The forest, with its play of light and shadow, offered myriad photo opportunities, capturing the ethereal beauty of this unique ecosystem. Although the forest wasn't vast, its calming ambiance made it a delightful interlude in our journey.

Scratching Off a Memory

With our day at Boseong drawing to a close, the bus journey back to Pyeongtaek was filled with recollections and shared stories. And as we reached home, one of the highlights was scratching off Boseong Green Tea Fields from our South Korea scratch map—a tangible reminder of our enriching day.
