about us
The Fourniers
Welcome to our corner of the internet! We're the Fournier family—Jon, Sylvya, and Russell—and we're thrilled you've decided to join us on our ever-evolving journey.
Jon and I (Sylvya) tied the knot in 2018 and began our married life in the Lone Star State, residing at Fort Hood, Texas until 2021. If you've ever met Jon, it would be clear within minutes that he's a die-hard Star Wars aficionado and a Lego enthusiast. Give him a Lego set, throw in a Star Wars movie marathon, and you've made his day. Jon serves in the Army, and it's his posting at Camp Humphreys in South Korea that prompted our big move in 2021.
I, Sylvya, am the free spirit of the family. As a travel enthusiast, coffee lover, and adventurer, I’ve always been eager to explore new horizons, sample diverse cuisines, and immerse myself in various cultures. You can often find me jotting down our family experiences, working lunches, and date-day adventures on this blog.
Russell, born in 2009, is my son and Jon's stepson. He's inherited my adventurous spirit and is sometimes our travel companion. A budding explorer in his own right, Russell often lends a fresh, youthful perspective to our escapades.
We also have extended family adding more layers to our life mosaic. Jon has two lovely daughters, Baylie and Kiersten, living in Tennessee. I have another son, Wanderlei, who resides in New York. While they are not with us in South Korea, they are very much a part of our hearts and stories.
The crux of our life philosophy is simple: make the best out of life by creating priceless memories and abundant laughter. Since our move to South Korea, we've been on a mission to scratch off every destination and food experience on our South Korean bucket list. We have a scratch-off map that serves as a visual diary of our Korean adventures, and we aim to have the whole map revealed before we return to our home in Texas in 2027.
But our adventure doesn’t just stop at exploring places and trying out new foods. Jon and I have instituted weekly date-days, where we visit cafes outside of Camp Humphreys. We've made it a tradition to share dishes, which does double duty—lowering calorie intake while maximizing the variety of flavors we can experience. And since I often have work meetings over lunch, we even incorporate ‘working lunches’ into our routine, adding a professional touch to our culinary explorations.
Whether it’s walking our dogs, Jada and Blizzard, discovering hidden gem cafes, or traversing the breathtaking landscapes of South Korea, we're capturing moments to cherish for a lifetime.
So there you have it—us, in a nutshell. Stick around to join us on our adventures, both big and small, as we navigate through life one day at a time, one experience at a time.
Welcome to the family!
